Wow! She really touched on everything out society has come to value in women. I will admit I used to be affected by the look of others and aspired to look more like the people portrayed in the media. I used to feel so bad about myself everyday: being overweight, not pretty enough and not being able to afford the right clothes. Eventually, I grew out of that and found that there is nothing wrong with me. I now see women who are half naked on TV trying to sell me trendy clothes, perfumes or make up and laugh at their fake existence and shallow looks. To me, it doesn't matter what is on the outside, only what kind of person I am and how I interact with others. It' depressing to know that my niece is going to have to suffer through her generation of wanting to be thinner and more beautiful like the models and actresses of our time. As it is, she is 6 years old and aspires to be just like Hannah Montana. She wants to wear makeup and dress just like her. She is beginning to wear spaghetti strapped shirts with skirts and goes around the house shaking what she has. This angers me because she cares about what she looks like and won't even leave the house without having the perfect outfit on or the right amount of lip gloss. Thankfully, my sister doesn't let her wear makeup yet, with the exception of lip gloss, but I can already see how she is going to be dressing in middle school and it scares me. I hope she becomes something more than just a pretty face who doesn't think she is good enough.

This just goes to show that we shouldn't aspire to look like the models that we see on TV or in music. These women don't really look like this and if they do it took them hours to get to where they are. Real women don't spend 5 hours getting ready in the bathroom "putting on their face." I love how they were promoting self esteem to girls and pointed out the fact that the models that we see in ads may not look that way in real life. I certainly know that the "beautiful people" in magazine are air brushed to the max to make them look better. You gotta love how deceiving technology can be....

I really enjoyed watching this clip from Dove Pro Age because it showed average women who were not afraid to show themselves for who they are. They weren't young and model-thin, they didn't have a thick layer of makeup and there didn't seem to be any hidden blemishes. The product itself is making a statement that women should not be afraid of aging, but should embrace it and take care of themselves in the process. I hate watching the commercials that want you to buy their product just so you can look more like the "ideal woman." This ad really stood out to me and told me that I should be happt with the way I am and take care of myself better. I especially love the fact that the women were not afraid to show themselves practically naked....way to love your body!!
