I didn't make it to the actual event, but I should've made more of an effort to. Man...
What was so refreshing about this video is how candid it was with the audience. There's nothing quite like blunt truth being spoken by my peers--it doesn't seem to happen often enough. I identified with a surprising majority of things that the video had to say. What hit me the most was the clip that read, "I'm afraid that people won't love me for who I am...so I keep changing." I realized that this is exactly what I do on a regular basis. At this point, I've changed so many times, trying to satisfy the expectations of the people around me, that I've completely lost who I truly am. I felt relief to see that I'm not the only one who has felt this way. I'm glad so many of my peers recognize what true beauty is, and are willing to speak up and say that they are beautiful, even if society might not think so.
Thank you for this.

Unfortunately due to my work schedul I was unable to attend any of the events. However I was able to view many of the pictures and comments online and was a little shocked, I did not realized how poor peoples image of thereselves was. I believe everyone should love themselves for their good qualities and not dwell on the others. Nobody is created perfect and thats what makes us human, if we were all created with the sterotypical image that is portrayed as perfection we would not have anything differing us from one another.

I found the video very interesting. I know many people can relate to the different body issues shown in the presentation. I though that it was creative to take pictures and highlight the body issues that some people feel with the text. I also thought the music was powerful and contributed to the presentation. I think women often feel a lot more pressure from society to look like Barbie. Myself, I am overweight, but I don't feel the pressure from society that I think an overweight female might feel. I think people have created and allowed the stereotypes to become so prevalent in today’s society.

So what do you believe is the answer to turn these messages around. . .indeed, we can all relate to this disdain and dissatisfaction with our bodies, but how can we turn this wrongthink into right-think? As MPB has said, learning to dissect and analyze the media messages being thrust into our faces day in and day out is one of the first steps to recognizing the 95% of the messages we receive are wrong. Let's start a revolution.

This video was perfectly put together to show the insecurities that many women struggle with on a daily bases. It really took me to surprise that there really are this many insecurities and i have myself have felt many of them. I can also not name one female that I personally know that has not dealt with these issues. As women we naturally strive to make ourselves look better. I feel that there is a huge difference between trying to create a healthy image and un healthy image. If a over weight women is professionally proven to be over weight and struggle to be satisfied with his/her body then i feel that should do something about the situation and take control rather than hating who they are. This seems to be very difficult for many. The media also plays a huge role with these images that we seem to think are beautiful. Half the time what many women are not realizing is these women are not natural. Surgery and photo shop are major tools in creating an image that girls hope they can be. This video reveals the struggles that women go through trying to be this image that media relates to as beautiful.

These pieces are profound. It's sad to see that so many of us have self esteem issues that are rooted in the media. I wish that more women loved their bodies how they are and not how they wish they could be.

It's a very sad reality. Both men and women at some point go through a vulnerable time where they question themselves and their bodies. I hope the slideshow and the other activities can help inspire people to relate to others.

Unfortunately I have a lot of insecurities when it comes to my body, but the one part I will always love are my hands. Sometimes close friends crack jokes about them because they are stubby but I am very proud of them. They are just like my mothers and I always pronounce it when someone tries to poke fun. I'm thankful I'm healthy and have my mother's hands which have helped me play the piano/guitar 14 years.

This video was amazing..I wish i can add it to my myspace profile. The images and words that were used to express how thses people truly feel about their bodies speaks out to me a lot. I can relate to this video a lot. I have ALWAYS wanted to look like a victorias secret model and I always wanted to have a normal size body...but it is so difficult for me to achieve, so I decided to get surgery to be skinny later. However this video was brilliant. I enjoyed the few little images and sayings that allowed the people to express that they are proud of their bodies like their breast size or just in general that they can move around. However, I did also cry a little..because the video made me think of my own body and how much I hate it. If I can have plastic surgery everywhere, I would. I cant really say I have a favorite image and saying int his video, because they were all fantastic in their own way. From the people wishing for bigger breasts, to the ones wishing for little breasts, ect. I truly did love the video and how much it hit me hard about my own body...I would love to participate in this next year.

It is difficult to watch people pour out their hearts and reveal their inner feelings about themselves. The video was very inspiring and it helps in a good/bad way bring out our own insecurities.

Wow! She really touched on everything out society has come to value in women. I will admit I used to be affected by the look of others and aspired to look more like the people portrayed in the media. I used to feel so bad about myself everyday: being overweight, not pretty enough and not being able to afford the right clothes. Eventually, I grew out of that and found that there is nothing wrong with me. I now see women who are half naked on TV trying to sell me trendy clothes, perfumes or make up and laugh at their fake existence and shallow looks. To me, it doesn't matter what is on the outside, only what kind of person I am and how I interact with others. It' depressing to know that my niece is going to have to suffer through her generation of wanting to be thinner and more beautiful like the models and actresses of our time. As it is, she is 6 years old and aspires to be just like Hannah Montana. She wants to wear makeup and dress just like her. She is beginning to wear spaghetti strapped shirts with skirts and goes around the house shaking what she has. This angers me because she cares about what she looks like and won't even leave the house without having the perfect outfit on or the right amount of lip gloss. Thankfully, my sister doesn't let her wear makeup yet, with the exception of lip gloss, but I can already see how she is going to be dressing in middle school and it scares me. I hope she becomes something more than just a pretty face who doesn't think she is good enough. -Ashley Duncan

This just goes to show that we shouldn't aspire to look like the models that we see on TV or in music. These women don't really look like this and if they do it took them hours to get to where they are. Real women don't spend 5 hours getting ready in the bathroom "putting on their face." I love how they were promoting self esteem to girls and pointed out the fact that the models that we see in ads may not look that way in real life. I certainly know that the "beautiful people" in magazine are air brushed to the max to make them look better. You gotta love how deceiving technology can be.... -Ashley Duncan

I really enjoyed watching this clip from Dove Pro Age because it showed average women who were not afraid to show themselves for who they are. They weren't young and model-thin, they didn't have a thick layer of makeup and there didn't seem to be any hidden blemishes. The product itself is making a statement that women should not be afraid of aging, but should embrace it and take care of themselves in the process. I hate watching the commercials that want you to buy their product just so you can look more like the "ideal woman." This ad really stood out to me and told me that I should be happt with the way I am and take care of myself better. I especially love the fact that the women were not afraid to show themselves practically naked....way to love your body!! -Ashley Duncan

Quite simply, every emotion was felt today. As a person trying to learn to "love my body" as it is--today was moving and inspirational. I am stunned by how pervasive the body messages are--how quickly we buy into them, even when we know we shouldn't. Thanks so much Jennifer and Christy. My day was significantly altered. Truly. The crummy thing is, especially for a writer, I am still word-less. Thank you for stunning me. maj Were others as moved as I? Share your thoughts. Let's discuss. Help me find my words.

This clip was amazing! As a woman I always think about what is happening to me and my gender through the media; however, after seeing this video I realized what an epidemic these boys have to live through as they grow up. It is not just women suffering from the unrealistic images of women protrayed through the media, it also men! We tend to feel that men and boys need to be tough and not show emotion or back down from a fight, this is an image that we, women, need to take responsibilty for - we(not everyone of course) are the one's that expect this kind of behavoir, it is not just other men. I know that I hate it when men cry (unless it's over a death), like if a guy cries when I am breaking up with them - eeww, ickkk- I hate it, but that is horrible for me to say that. Men have emotions too and they should have a right to express them. If I cried when a man broke up with me, that would be completely normal. No man would ever look down on a girl or woman for crying during an emotional moment, yet we expect that kind of behavoir from men and boys. What a double standard! This video has opened my eyes to what men have to deal with during their adolescence. I also want to add that I loved the Dove video on the model - I too look very different after hours of makeup and hair work and it's nice to see that other women are not "naturally" that beautiful as well.

Most of these pictures made me sad and reminded me of how some people or just too hard on themselves. Last semester I did a large research project on eating disorders and this opened my eyes to many issues facing so many of us. It also was disturbing to see the amount of people who did not like thier selves because of how thier body looked on the outside. It was nice to see some posters, represent thier overall feelings of peace and comfort with thier bodies and it's differences. It would be a wonderful thing to see more people love themselves more.
