I attended the poetry reading today and I thought it was great! I could have sat there all day and listened. While people read it felt like so much more than just words, it felt as if each speaker were sharing a part of themselves... What courage that must have taken and what a privilege to be a part of it, even if just as a listener.Pamela Gill Do you find this valuable? |

It's a long, long way to Rocklin from here, so 'in spirit if not the flesh...' Good to read of a successful event and I agree with you; takes a lot of personal grit to share out loud. Sorry to not have been there to have real associations with the names, personae and experience.Onward! Do you find this valuable? |

I wish I could. I am so far away that I can only hear about it and not actually see it. I think it is so amazing that people can get up and actually say there true feelings. I cannot even get up and do a speech for class. Let alone let my feelings coming out with a personal poem. I look up to those who do it.

I was unable to attend these events as I work full time, but I have been viewing some of the art work from 2007. I found this presentation of the "secrets" quite wonderful as I have never experienced this "love your body" week before since being at Sierra. I would love to attend next year, hopefully and be more involved. I can say as a mother with three daughters, my home is constantly a place where body image is discussed and has been an issue. My oldest daughter went through a short time of not eating and fainting because she felt she was too fat, (which she is not) but I have certainly learned a lot from viewing these works of art as to how people view themselves. Nice to know I'm not alone in these body image problems....

I wish I was able to attend some of these events... I really enjoyed looking at the picture's online and seeing how everyone came together for all the events. I know it's not easy to get up and read in front of a big group of people, especially reading something about yourself.Eden Elzea Do you find this valuable? |

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend any of these events. It seems as if they would have been worthwhile, if I could have been able to get the time off work. It's amazing how people are able to get together for something they believe in....Ashley Duncan Do you find this valuable? |

I have been reading through some of the discussions and materials on this site and I was just thinking about how I didn't really like my body or have the ability to accept it until I was in my later 30's. I think it comes with age that you stop focusing so much on the outward and more on the inward portion of yourself. Also, the way others view you physically is not so crucial as it is when you are young. I always tell my daughters that they might hate their budding hips, and boobs now, but they will be thankful for them later in life. LOL ;)

Unfortunately due to my work schedul I was unable to attend any of the events. However I was able to view many of the pictures and comments online and was a little shocked, I did not realized how poor peoples image of thereselves was. I believe everyone should love themselves for their good qualities and not dwell on the others. Nobody is created perfect and thats what makes us human, if we were all created with the sterotypical image that is portrayed as perfection we would not have anything differing us from one another.
